The Re 4 / 4 new name Re 425 UIC is the universal electric locomotive of BLS AG. It was purchased as a universal engine with good mountain performance to carry the trains with higher speeds and to replace the locomotives of the early years. The Re 4 / 4, together with the Re 465 and Re 485 are used on freight trains between Germany and Italy via the Lötschberg and Simplon routes in Switzerland. They can also be found on some of the local S-Bahn services from Bern, between Interlaken and Zweisimmen and on the car trains between Kandersteg - Goppenstein and Iselle.
Models can be run together or seperately. The locos are configured to have no light on one end each the end sides “in the middle” of the double-heading. This can be changed by jumpers. In digital mode the light can be switched without jumpers of course.
