“It was my suggestion to stop off at Wapping Pier Head. I thought the backdrop of the
river, the cranes and the buildings would make a perfect setting. We were in a very nice
Georgian square, which is open at the dockside. The camouflage jacket that John is
wearing is actually Don’s, a little memento from his war reporting excursions. The group
had their own preconceived ideas as to what made a good photo and I just followed their
lead and took the shot. John lay down and I took my opportunity. He thought it would
make a good photo and he was right.”
