My fly fishing guide, Dave Downie, was very knowledgeable about local conditions, an excellent fly tier, and a good guide to have on the river.
At about 1:00pm in the afternoon I hooked the largest freshwater fish of my life – a brown trout approx. 8 to 9 lb.
I played this wild fish upstream and downstream for more than 5 minutes but as the guide was about to net the fish it leaped about 4 ft. into the air and freed itself from the fly. Rather than being disappointed after losing this trophy fish, I was instead overjoyed and most thankful for the experience as we had a beautiful section of the river to ourselves and I had a full day to fish for trout for the first time in nearly 2 years.
